Frequently Asked Questions
Etched stainless steel plaques are made by chemical etching recessed designs into a solid sheet of stainless steel. This process allows for fine detail, small text, and precision artwork that isn't possible with cast plaques. Stainless steel offers a sleek, modern appearance and exceptional corrosion resistance, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
We offer etched stainless steel plaques in a brushed finish (most common), or polished finish (#8 finish). Standard thicknesses are ⅛ and ¼” thick, depending on plaque size and mounting needs. Recessed areas can be paint-filled in black, white, or custom colors for contrast and branding alignment. UV printed full color images and logos are also available.
Etching allows for extremely fine resolution, with capital letters as small as ⅛" tall still remaining legible. This makes stainless steel plaques ideal for longer messages, quotes, multiple lines of text, and intricate logos or line art.
Yes. Stainless steel is naturally corrosion-resistant and well-suited for outdoor environments. Etched plaques are sealed with a clear protective coating to guard against UV exposure, moisture, and fading. Alloy 316 is recommended for coastal environments.
Etched stainless steel plaques can be installed using: - Blind studs (¼” thick required) - Surface screws (no rosettes) - Double-sided tape for smaller, ⅛" thick interior plaques - Custom mounting locations for glass, wood, stone, or existing surfaces We’ll provide the appropriate mounting hardware based on your application.
Etched stainless steel plaques allow for smaller text and more intricate designs. They're ideal when you need a clean, modern aesthetic or are working with limited space. Cast plaques, by contrast, use raised lettering and have more visual depth but require larger fonts and spacing.
Yes. Stainless steel plaques are commonly used for dedications, building signage, donor recognition, or modern memorial markers. The clean appearance and lasting durability make them a popular choice in both professional and commemorative settings.
