Frequently Asked Questions
Etched brass plaques are made by chemically etching recessed lettering and graphics into solid brass. This allows for highly detailed text and artwork, with a smooth, polished look. Recessed areas are paint-filled for contrast, while the exposed surface retains brass’s rich, golden tone — ideal for commemorative, recognition, or dedication applications.
Brass has a brighter, yellow-gold tone, while bronze has a warmer, reddish-brown tone that darkens naturally over time. Etched brass offers a more polished, formal aesthetic, while bronze is often considered more traditional and is better suited for outdoor durability. Brass is not recommended for long-term outdoor use, as it is more prone to tarnishing and environmental wear than bronze.
Etched brass plaques are available in ⅛" and ¼" thicknesses, depending on size and mounting needs. We offer fully custom sizing, typically up to 24" × 36". We’ll help determine the best dimensions based on your layout, text, and installation location.
Brass plaques can be used in interior or sheltered outdoor locations, such as covered entryways or lobbies. However, for fully exposed outdoor settings, we recommend using bronze or stainless steel instead. Brass is more reactive to the elements and may tarnish or corrode faster, even with a protective clear coat.
Mounting options include: - Blind studs for clean mounting on masonry or solid walls (requires ¼″ thickness) - Screw mounts through the face - Double-sided tape for small, lightweight indoor plaquesAll necessary hardware will be included, and we’ll recommend the best option based on your application.
Etched brass is excellent for logos, line art, and small or detailed text. The recessed areas can be paint-filled in black, white, or custom-matched colors to complement your brand or architectural palette. UV-printed imagery is also available for full-color designs on interior plaques.
Yes. Etched brass plaques are commonly used for recognition awards, building dedications, donor lists, and commemorative signage. Their rich appearance makes them ideal for prestigious or high-visibility settings, such as universities, corporate offices, and government buildings.
